The reparative process of my skin from the sun damage is finally coming to an end. I can now start working on actual concerns I have with my skin. Having acne prone skin, whenever inflammation in the skin increases, the acne starts to act up. Just this past week I finally received my first true extraction-based treatment to start cleaning out my pores. My esthetician definitely had her work cut out for her with the amount of congestion that was prevalent in my skin. I am now dealing with a lot of blemishes from the extractions, commonly known as Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. But that does not concern me much because the texture of my skin appears to be smooth and “bump” free. The goal is to give myself a 4% retinol peel to clear up all the blemishes as well as some of the remaining sun damage. After this final treatment my skin will be ready to go back to its normal healthy state, pre-spring break.
My at-home skincare routine will also change a little bit to accommodate for all of these changes that my skin is going through. It is going to be very important for me to address the Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) that my skin is going to be experiencing over the next few weeks. I will be upping my topical hyaluronic acid as well as using a Hyaluronic acid-based moisturizer overnight. If the skin has an adequate supply of water in it, it is more resilient to inflammation as well as its response to more aggressive peels is superior. I have re-incorporated a low dose retinol into my regiment and I am also using a couple drops of a 99% pure CBD serum in my acne gel to further help with the inflammation! I hope these last 3 newsletters have been informative and given you a sense of transparency that I do practice what I preach!!!
